Why Anessa Leads Japanese Sun Care
Three decades of ultraviolet research condensed into bottles that hold up on the beach, the trail and the morning commute alike.

Booster Technology
Aqua and thermo boosters let the UV veil knit tighter on contact with perspiration, humidity and warmth, instead of sliding off the way ordinary lotions do.

Half Skincare
Half of every formula is treatment: green tea leaf extract, tormentil root, hyaluronic acid and water-soluble collagen keep the complexion supple under high protection.

Ocean Conscious
Filters are chosen with coral reefs in mind. Oxybenzone, octinoxate and microplastic beads stay out, while packaging and refill research keep cutting plastic use.
The Story Behind the Gold Bottle
Shiseido began investigating ultraviolet light in 1915, decades before sun protection became a daily ritual in Japan. That laboratory groundwork eventually needed a home of its own, and in 1992 Anessa arrived as a dedicated suncare label built for people who refuse to stay indoors.
Anessa has topped Japan’s suncare charts since 2002 and now ranks first across the Asia-Pacific region by retail sales, stocked in more than a dozen markets. The gold Perfect UV Milk became shorthand for the whole category, shaken before every application and reformulated repeatedly.
Purpose runs past the bottle. Under the Free to Shine philosophy, the label has supported xeroderma pigmentosum patients since 2004, launched UV lessons in Japanese preschools in 2018, and expanded the Sunshine Project across a dozen Asian countries and regions in 2024.

Questions About Anessa Sun Care
Straight answers on texture, removal, water resistance and picking between the gold and the lighter lines.
Most sunscreens weaken once perspiration and water hit them. Anessa uses booster technology that strengthens the protective film on contact with moisture and heat, which is why it holds through swimming, sport and humid weather.
The Perfect UV Milk in the gold bottle offers the highest water resistance and a matte, powdery finish, making it the pick for beaches, hikes and heavy perspiration. The gel feels lighter and more hydrating, better suited to commuting and wear under makeup.
No. The hybrid filter system blends mineral and organic screens at levels that disappear on most skin tones, drying down to a natural, slightly matte finish rather than a chalky layer.
A regular facial cleanser or body wash lifts most formulas without special products. Anyone wearing foundation over the sunscreen will get a cleaner result from a double cleanse.
Yes. The mild line carries the same SPF50+ PA++++ rating without fragrance or alcohol, and is formulated gently enough for reactive skin and young children.
Oxybenzone, octinoxate and microplastic scrub beads are excluded, and coral research guides filter selection. Strict mineral-only definitions of reef safety would still fall outside the range, since other organic screens remain in use.

What Wearers Report
Impressions gathered from long beach days, humid commutes and camping trips where sunburn found everyone else.

Wore the gold milk through a week of camping and came home without a single burn while everyone nearby peeled. It shakes, spreads fast and dries matte.

The gel sits under foundation better than any primer tried so far. No pilling, no shine by lunchtime, and the scent fades within a couple of minutes.

Swimming laps outdoors used to mean reapplying constantly. This one holds through the water and rinses off later with plain facial cleanser, nothing harsh.
